Psycho Icons

npm start

npm run build

<img src="icons/brain/brain.svg" width="32" height="32" alt="大脑">

<svg width="32" height="32" viewBox="0 0 48 48">
  <use href="downloads/psycho-icons-sprite.svg#psi-brain" />
</svg>

常规使用 stroke-width="2",加粗使用 stroke-width="3"。

坐标落在 2px 节奏上,stroke-linecap="round" 与 stroke-linejoin="round" 保持柔和的心理学语境。
全部使用 fill="none" 与 stroke="currentColor",方便在深浅主题中复用。

I('brain', 'brain', '大脑', 'brain neuro mind 脑 神经',
  p('M24 10c-4-3-10-2-12 2 ...') + ln(24, 10, 24, 40))

Psycho Icons

A free, open-source icon library for psychology, mental health and the mind sciences. Version v0.1.0 ships 0 icons across 12 thematic categories, all drawn on a single 48×48 master. Both the site and this documentation are available in Chinese and English.

Installation

There is no build step and no third-party runtime dependency — the library is plain static assets.

1. Download the pack

Grab psycho-icons.zip. It contains Regular SVGs organised by category, every Bold SVG, an SVG sprite, metadata and a readme.

2. Run the site locally

npm start
# open http://localhost:4173

server.js uses only Node.js built-ins and requires Node 18+. You can also open index.html directly in a browser.

3. Rebuild from source

npm run build

The build script reads assets/js/icons.js and regenerates the individual SVGs in icons/ plus the sprite, JSON metadata and ZIP in downloads/.

Usage

Use a single SVG

<img src="icons/brain/brain.svg" width="32" height="32" alt="Brain">

Each file ships with stroke="#1b1a18". Scale it with CSS width / height; replace the stroke value to recolour, or use currentColor on an inline SVG to inherit the text colour.

Use the SVG sprite

<svg width="32" height="32" viewBox="0 0 48 48">
  <use href="downloads/psycho-icons-sprite.svg#psi-brain" />
</svg>

Every symbol id follows psi-<name>. With an external sprite, the colour comes from the outer SVG's color.

Weights and language

Regular uses stroke-width="2" and Bold uses stroke-width="3". Both share exactly the same paths, so scaling never redraws the outline. Use the language switch in the top bar to toggle Chinese / English; the choice is stored locally, and ?lang=en opens the English version directly.

Design principles

  • One master, scaled — never redrawn. Every icon is drawn on a 48×48 grid; the 16–64px sizes in the browser are the same paths scaled.
  • Two weights, shared paths. Bold changes only the stroke width, keeping the silhouette and meaning consistent at both densities.
  • 2px rhythm and rounded caps. Coordinates sit on a 2px rhythm, with stroke-linecap="round" and stroke-linejoin="round" for a softer, human tone.
  • No fills, single colour, inheritable. Everything uses fill="none" and stroke="currentColor" so icons work in light and dark themes.
  • Semantic bilingual naming. English kebab-case names, Chinese labels and mixed-language keywords make search work in both languages.
  • Concepts before decoration. Each glyph maps to a recognisable psychological concept — the CBT triangle, the habit loop, the Big Five — rather than an abstract shape.

Contributing an icon

All icons live in the ICONS array in assets/js/icons.js. Each entry holds the name, category, Chinese label, search tags and SVG body:

I('brain', 'brain', '大脑', 'brain neuro mind 脑 神经',
  p('M24 10c-4-3-10-2-12 2 ...') + ln(24, 10, 24, 40))

After adding an icon, run npm run build. The script validates name uniqueness, category validity and SVG structure, then regenerates every distributable file. Please keep the 48×48 grid, no fills, rounded caps, the 2px stroke rhythm, and always supply a Chinese label plus bilingual keywords.

Want to propose an icon but unsure about the name? Describe its Chinese label, English name and category using the format above.

License & legal

The icons and site code are released under the MIT License: free for commercial and non-commercial use, modification and redistribution, provided the copyright and license notice are kept. No warranty of any kind is provided.

Psychology-related glyphs are illustrative and educational. They are not diagnostic tools, treatment advice or medical claims. Clinical terms in icon names are used only as standard academic vocabulary.

Roadmap

  • Expand clinical and developmental subtopics towards 500+ icons.
  • Add keyword aliases and more language labels for every icon.
  • Ship an npm package, React / Vue components and a Figma library.
  • Add an icon request workflow and a changelog.
  • Provide a filled style and additional optical masters.
